The annual WJOL Area Baseball Invite, the traditional kickoff to the high school baseball season, has been renamed the WJOL/Don Ladas Memorial Baseball Tournament in memory of Ladas, the local sports broadcaster for more than a half-century who recently died.

The tournament is scheduled April 3 and 5. April 4, Good Friday, is an off day.

Two games will be played April 3 at Providence and two will be played that day at Lockport. The matchups at Providence are Plainfield Central vs. Providence at 2:30 p.m. and Joliet Central vs. Minooka following. At Lockport, Plainfield South will meet Joliet Catholic at 4:30 and Lockport will face Joliet West under the lights.

Two games will be played at each of those sites Saturday morning before the place games – seventh, fifth, third and first – are contested at Silver Cross Field.

Providence is the defending champion.

The Celtics rallied for four runs to beat Lockport 7-4 last year in the title game after trailing 4-3 with two outs and nobody on base in the seventh inning.
