Motorist dies in Bolingbrook crash with semitrailer

BOLINGBROOK – A Countryside man was killed Tuesday in a collision with a semitrailer.

The crash occurred at 6:54 p.m. at Joliet Road and 107th Street in Bolingbrook. Police Lt. Mike Rompa said a semitrailer was turning north onto Joliet Road when it was struck by a Chevrolet Equinox traveling south.

The driver of the Chevrolet, John C. Snella, 70, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:12 p.m., according to the coroner’s office. A 76-year-old Countryside woman who had been in the passenger seat was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital in critical condition, Rompa said. As of Wednesday afternoon, she remained in the intensive care unit.

The truck driver, a 30-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, was not hurt.

Illinois State Police Truck Enforcement conducted an inspection of the truck while the Bolingbrook Police Traffic Unit is investigating the crash, Rompa said Wednesday.
