House left uninhabitable after Fox Lake structure fire

FOX LAKE – A Fox Lake residence was left uninhabitable after a fire Sunday night that left extensive damage to the back of the structure, firefighters said.

The Fox Lake Village Fire Department responded about 11 p.m. to a reported structure fire at 23 S. Maple Avenue in Lake County, Battalion Chief Tom Preidis said.

The back of the building was fully involved with flames, Preidis added.

"We had it under control probably with 15 to 20 minutes," he said. "Then it was just getting the hot spots."

Preidis indicated both occupants of the house got out safely before responders arrived, but one was taken to an area hospital. He added there were no major injuries to the patient or any firefighters.

Lake Villa and Round Lake fire protection districts assisted Fox Lake, and agencies from Antioch, Grayslake and Wauconda were on standby. The Spring Grove Fire Protection District responded with an ambulance, Preidis said.

The fire is under investigation by the Fox Lake Fire Department.
