Construction worker dies in Wilmington

WILMINGTON – A construction worker died Friday after he was pinned between a beam and a lift.

Patrick C. Wilda, 33, of Plainfield was discovered about noon in the lift he’d been working in at a site in the 24500 block of Lorenzo Road in Wilmington, according to Police Chief Phillip Arnold.

Arnold said the lift had been extended to the roof beam. Other workers performed CPR until Wilmington firefighters arrived. Wilda was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was pronounced dead at 12:43 p.m.

An autopsy was performed Saturday at the Will County Coroner’s Office. Cause of death will be determined pending police investigation and further investigation of the worksite mishap, according to the coroner’s office.

Wilda was employed by Area Erectors Inc. Arnold said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident. The Wilmington Police Department and the Illinois State Police are also investigating the incident, the coroner’s office said.

Fred C. Dames Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.
