CEO in medical marijuana dispute with Illinois dies

CHICAGO – Authorities in Cook County are investigating the death of the CEO of a company involved in a lawsuit with the state of Illinois over the company’s failed bid for a medical marijuana-farming permit.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that 51-year-old Andrew James was found unresponsive in his Kenilworth home Thursday. Authorities are awaiting test results after an autopsy was inconclusive.

James headed PM Rx. A spokesman for the company said it would meet soon to discuss how to proceed without James as CEO. PM Rx filed a lawsuit alleging it lost its bid for a permit because the Illinois Department of Agriculture broke rules when awarding permits.
