Crowd enjoys ‘Amateur Rib Cook-Off’ in Frankfort

FRANKFORT – More than 600 rib lovers crowded downtown Frankfort on Aug. 1 for Frankfort’s sixth annual “Amateur Rib Cook-Off”.

Nineteen contestants from Frankfort, New Lenox, Tinley Park, Oak Forest, Mokena, Chicago participated.

The event was co-sponsored by the Village of Frankfort, Frankfort Area Jaycees, and the Frankfort Lions Club. All proceeds benefit the Jaycees and Lions Club organizations and serves as a fundraiser for their organizations.

The judges for the event this year were Brandon Richardella, Brian Bury and Steve Peterson; all had previously participated in the rib cook off and are members of the Kansas City BBQ Society. Live music was provided by Marty “Big Dog” Mercer.

Winners of first place, second place and third place were:

• South Side Pit Men – Contestant No. 12 – from Oak Forest

• Bad Axe BBQ – Contestant No. 7 – from Palos Heights

• Full Slabs – Contestant No. 16 – from New Lenox

The Crowd Pleaser award went to South Side Pit Men – Contestant No. 12 – from Oak Forest.
