JOLIET – Family Fiesta, an annual event that features live Latino music, food and family activities, runs Friday through Sunday at Bicentennial Park.
The event features free admission this year. Family Fiesta is the major fundraiser for the Spanish Community Center, a Joliet social service agency.
Family Fiesta also is an opportunity to sample a variety of Hispanic food, both from local restaurants and outside vendors. Nevarez noted there also will be a pizza and cheesecake vendor.
The schedule is: 5 to 11 p.m. Friday; noon to 11 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. Bicentennial Park is at 201 W. Jefferson St., Joliet.
Bands begin performing at 6 p.m. each night, said Elizabeth Nevarez, executive director for the Spanish Community Center. They include a Mariachi band on Saturday and “Mariachi Matters,” a children’s band from Romeoville that will perform Sunday.
“We are going to have activities for children,” she added. “There are pony rides. They are back by popular demand. We will have free jumpies.”
Arts and crafts from Mexico also will be available for sale.
