WILMINGTON – Five Wilmington rushers gained more than 40 yards Friday night as the unbeaten Wildcats knocked off Interstate Eight Small rival Reed-Custer, 42-6.
Tyler Brimer led the ground attack with 80 yards in five carries. Owen Weaver chipped in 60 yards in nine carries and scored two touchdowns.
Nick Hawkins, one of the area’s leading rushers, added 52 in 11 carries and scored twice.
Nick Pretto gained 44 yards in four carries, and Joe Mendoza had 41 in nine carries; both had touchdowns.
Hawkins was in on six tackles for Wilmington (4-0, 2-0). Weaver and Jake Capwell had sacks.
For Reed-Custer (0-4, 0-2), Scott Mitchell rushed for 61 yards in two carries, and Sam Lepper was in on nine tackles, six of them solo. Parker Dransfeldt scored on a 1-yard run with 4:16 left to avert the shutout.
Lincoln-Way East 50, Stagg 0: East (3-1, 2-0) beat the weather and the blanked the SouthWest Suburban Blue opponent Friday, winning its third straight game.
Peotone 17, Sandwich 7: Peotone (2-2, 1-1) got a 32-yard field goal from Bryce Loring. Kyle Maupin had a 5-yard run for a touchdown and an 8-yard TD pass to Chandler Gartner. Jordan Amaskane had a huge interception in the final minutes for the Blue Devils.
Maupin passed for 81 yards and Nick King rushed for 95 for Peotone.
