Two people were charged and a third was injured in an early morning crash near Minooka that blocked traffic for hours.
About 5:21 a.m. Tuesday at Interstate 80 milepost 119 the driver of a semitrailer was resting while parked on the right shoulder when the driver of a three-axle box truck traveling eastbound fell asleep and drove into the semitrailer, according to Illinois State Police District 5 Master Sgt. Wilfredo Rivera.
The semitrailer was carrying milk products, which spilled onto the interstate, Rivera said. The box truck flipped on its side, blocking multiple lanes.
All lanes were closed for several hours, according to Rivera, and traffic was redirected to the left shoulder. Partial lane closures continued until 9:05 a.m.
The driver of the semitrailer was charged with improper parking, Rivera said, and the driver of the box truck was charged with driving while fatigued and improper lane use.
The semitrailer's co-driver was transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.
