JOLIET – A search firm for Joliet Public Schools District 86 is gathering candidates for the next superintendent.
Ray & Associates, based in Iowa, is collecting candidates to present to the Board of School Inspectors, said board President Gwendolyn Ulmer.
She said that at the Jan. 4 board meeting, board inspectors will look at semifinalists for the superintendent position and, on Jan. 7, they will select finalists to interview.
During the weeks of Jan. 11 and 18, board inspectors will begin the interview process, she said.
“Everything has been going well. The search team is doing a great job, and we are patiently waiting,” Ulmer said.
She also said Ray & Associates has alerted several publications about District 86’s superintendent search.
According to a job posting on Ray & Associates’ website, the salary for the next superintendent will be in the range of $190,000 to $210,000, including a comprehensive benefit package. The final salary will be negotiated and determined based on proven experience, qualifications and board criteria, according to the website.
The application deadline is Dec. 14, and the start date for the position is to be determined.
Once the candidate is hired, he or she must reside within District 86 boundaries, according to a flier for the position.
The new superintendent also must have or be qualified to obtain an Illinois professional educator license with a superintendent endorsement by June 30.
Ray & Associates has been assisting District 86 officials and board inspectors with finding the next superintendent after Superintendent Charles Coleman announced in June that he plans to retire next summer.
The company was selected Sept. 2 by board inspectors to be the search firm for $18,000 as a base fee that will be paid in three installments.
The firm was picked from six companies the board reviewed over the summer because it had 40 years of experience, an outstanding reputation and national resources, Ulmer has said.
Since being hired, Ray & Associates has held open forums at two District 86 schools to gather input from residents on qualities they look for in a superintendent. The firm also gathered the same information from board inspectors.
