LOCKPORT – A Lockport family began their morning Thursday with an unexpected visitor when an SUV drove through their bay window.
Police were dispatched at 7:58 a.m. to the 16600 block of Meadow Hill Lane after a Toyota RAV4 struck two houses on the street, according to Lt. Rich Harang.
The SUV was traveling westbound on 151st Street when it turned off the road to the right, Harang said. It struck the corner of the first home and continued into the bay window of the second, where it came to rest near the residents of the house, who were eating breakfast. None of the family members were injured.
The driver, Jefferson Gole-Cruz, 29, of Orland Park, was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. According to Harang, Gole-Cruz told police he “blacked out” during the incident. He wasn't hurt in the crash, and no medical condition was determined to have caused it. The incident is not believed to be related to alcohol or drug use, either.
Both homes hit were deemed structurally safe by inspectors, Harang said, but the houses did sustain exterior damage, with the second home struck seeing the most.
Gole-Cruz was cited with improper lane use for leaving the road, according to Harang.
