Area Roundup: Plainfield Central baseball gets another no-hitter

PLAINFIELD – Sultan Solebo and Nick Pratt combined for a no-hitter as Plainfield Central’s baseball team claimed a 6-0 Southwest Prairie Conference home win over Romeoville.

Solebo (3-0) picked up the win behind 62/3 innings of work while striking out 11. This marks Solebo’s second consecutive game where he was involved in a no-hitter.

The Wildcats offense was led by Kyle MacFarlane and Cam Cercone, who both went 3 for 3. MacFarlane had three stolen bases while Cercone had two doubles and an RBI. Kyle Cockrell went 2-for-3 with two runs.


Joliet West 2, Manteno 2: After battling into eight innings, the game was called due to darkness. Alex Tibble had two hits and a run while Scott Keigher and Nick Gulliford each had an RBI for West (3-4-1). Jordan Anderson threw four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. T.J. Murray pitched a scoreless eighth.

Lincoln-Way Central 9, Stagg 7: After Brandon Bennitt (two RBI) scored, Tyler Schuerg (2- for-4, two runs, three RBI) smacked a two-run homer that proved to be the winner for the Knights (3-6). Trevor Newton (1-1) pitched 32/3 innings of relief for the win.

Plainfield South 5, Oswego East 1: Konnor Ash picked up the win for the Cougars.

Lincoln-Way North 8, Joliet Central 1: Luke DeBenedetti and Thomas Langley had the lone two hits for the Steelmen (2-5).

Kankakee Trinity Christian 9, Families of Faith Christian 4: Jordan Welsh had a two-RBI double to lead Faith Christian (2-4-1, 1-2). Thomas Larson had two runs.


Providence 9, Bishop McNamara 6: Jessica Cothern went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI to lead the Celtics (4-0, 1-0). Taylor Amato (2B) went 3-for-3, Taylor Young (RBI) went 3-for-5 and Lex Leighton scored twice. Kendal Judge picked up the win and struck out six.

Lincoln-Way Centrall 5, Stagg 3: Abigail Baez had a two-run homer to lead Central (3-3).

Lemont 8, Argo 7: Kayla Irwin and Shannon Irwin both went 2-for-4 to lead Lemont (1-1, 1-0). Kayla had two RBI while Shannon picked up a RBI. Haley Eacoli hit the game-winning two-run triple. Jade Mandjetko picked up the win and struck out two.

Wilmington 15, St. Anne 1: Lorri Kucharski went 3-for-4 with five RBI and a double to lead Wilmington. Chloe Lombardi and Mickaela Tworek had two RBI each.

Morris 10, Plano 2: Janelle Brehm and Jasmine Cook led Morris (7-1) with three hits each. Brehm had a double, homer and two RBI while Cook added two doubles, a triple and two RBI. Emily Moore (RBI), Ashley Phelps (three RBI) and Amanda Jenkins (RBI) each had two hits. Abby Burns threw the first five innings and struck out nine. Gigi Corban threw the final two innings and struck out four.


Neuqua Valley 25-29, Joliet West 21-27: Luke Van Eck had nine kills (52.9 percent hitting) to lead the Tigers (4-3). Kyler Van Rossum-O’Connell dished out 23 assists and Scott Lyman had seven kills.

Lincoln-Way Central 25-25, Naperville Central 21-20: The Knights are now 9-3 with the nonconference victory.


Lincoln-Way North 1, Lockport 0: Cassidy Henson made four saves for the Porters (3-2).

Bolingbrook 3, Lincoln-Way Central 2: Lincoln-Way Central fell to 0-5-2, 0-2.


St. Francis 14, Indiana South Bend 3: CJ Duffek and Tony Faron each collected three RBI, and Charlie Ludolph threw a complete game as the visiting Saints 19-17, 4-8) won in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Kyle Burton had three hits and six other Saints each had two as part of the Saints’ 17-hit onslaught. Burton, Kevin Mampe and Nick Fleischauer each drove in two runs. Ludolph (2-2) allowed seven hits and three runs (one earned) while walking three and fanning five to post his first complete game in four starts.


Lewis takes third: Lewis finished the Southern Bancorp Invite in third place among eight squads. Alex Thode tied for fifth (149) and recorded seven birdies in the event. Robert Dofflemyer III, Jack Korzon and Ryan Ballard all finished tied for 18th with a two-round total of 154. Andrew Grant rounded out Lewis’ starting five with a 156, tying for 25th. Individual golfers Trent Smith fired a 162 and Trace Moustakas a 166.
