JOLIET – Joliet firefighters quickly extinguished a junkyard fire Thursday.
The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. at Ace Iron & Metals Inc., 11 Third Ave. in Joliet, according to Joliet Fire Department Capt. Mark Vershay.
A 20-foot pile of scrap metal was ablaze at the scene, but the owner of the junkyard used a magnetic crane to break it up, Vershay said, making the fire easier to put out. It was extinguished in less than an hour.
No one was injured as a result of the incident, Vershay said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
