MINOOKA – Reports of identity theft in Minooka have skyrocketed.
In addition to the 10 cases reported in a nine-day span as of Friday morning, Minooka police received an additional 65 reports between then and late Monday afternoon, when the police department issued a news release on the matter.
Each incident is different and the spree is not related to a single business, according to the news release.
Police have not ruled out skimming devices and are working with a financial crimes task force, the news release stated, and investigating the possible use of credit card scanners. Thieves with scanners stand next to customers in line and scan credit or debit cards in wallets or purses.
