WILMINGTON TOWNSHIP – The cow has come home.
A young calf whose owner feared it had been stolen last week was back on the farm Tuesday, Will County sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.
The owner called police Saturday after the week-old brown calf disappeared from the farm in the 23000 block of West Widows Road in Wilmington Township. The farmer felt it was unusual for the calf to not be near his mother and there were no signs wolves or coyotes had gotten into the fence.

The owner told Hoffmeyer he has no idea how the animal got out of the fence surrounding his 31-acre farm, but believed it was in an adjacent cornfield or wooded area.
“He said the cow was a little worn but was fine otherwise,” Hoffmeyer said.
