JOLIET – Grammy award winner Kacey Musgraves will perform at the Rialto Square Theatre, the theater announced Monday.

It is the first show booked under the Rialto's new outside management company.

Musgraves, a country musician, will stop Dec. 15 in Joliet as part of her "A Very Kacey Christmas Tour." The show starts at 8 p.m.

Musgraves will showcase songs that will be on her upcoming Christmas album, "A Very Kacey Christmas," which is scheduled to be released Oct. 28.

Tickets for the show go on sale Friday.

Musgraves was booked through VenuWorks, the Ames, Iowa-based venue management company that took over management at the Rialto on Sept. 1.

"This is our first one," Interim General Manager Timothy Berry said of the Rialto booking.

"It's really sort of a collaborative effort between VenuWorks and the Rialto staff," Berry said.

For a first booking, Berry said Musgraves is a "fabulous" performer to get at the Rialto.

Musgraves won Grammy awards for Best Country Song with "Merry Go Round" and Best Country Album with "Same Trailer Different Park."

"It's young country," Berry said. "We think country works well anywhere. But in the Joliet area, we think it's a wonderful show to start our relationship with the Rialto and the Joliet marketplace."

VenuWorks was brought in after the Rialto board decided to go to an outside management company to operate the theater rather than continue hiring its own general manager. The last general manager, Randy Green, left in March under a separation agreement as the Rialto grappled with financial problems, including late payments on payroll taxes.

Tickets for the Kacey Musgraves show are $30, $40 and $50. They are available at: the Rialto box office, 102 N. Chicago St.; online at Ticketmaster.com; or by phone at 800-745-3000 or 815-726-6600.
