LOCKPORT – A Chicago man died after his vehicle collided with a tow truck Monday.

Lockport Police Department Deputy Chief Ron Huff said a gray Chrysler Town and Country minivan was traveling at 6:21 p.m. in the 500 block of State Street when the crash occurred.

"According to witnesses, the Chrysler crossed over the center lane divider and struck the tow truck," Huff said. "It was rainy and the roads were wet, but not icy."

The only occupant of the minivan, Armando Piemonte, 45, was extricated from the vehicle by Lockport Township firefighters and taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. Piemonte was pronounced dead at 7:16 p.m., according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

The tow truck driver, a 55-year-old Lockport man, was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening, Huff said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
