CHANNAHON – Icy conditions on Interstate 55 in the Channahon area led to multiple vehicle crashes early Wednesday morning.
No injuries were reported, said Illinois State Police Sgt. Scott Angus.
The first wave of crashes involved at least three vehicles and occurred at 5:48 a.m. on the northbound side of the interstate at the Des Plaines River bridge, Angus said.
The second wave of crashes involved three vehicles and happened about 6 a.m. in the same area, he said.
The area was closed until 7:30 a.m. Illinois State Police, Channahon firefighters and the Illinois Department of Transportation responded to the incidents, Angus said.
