Joliet Franciscan Sisters to host an event about human trafficking on March 11

JOLIET – The Joliet Franciscan Sisters will host“Enhance your awareness of / and share your responses against Human Trafficking” on March 11.

The event will be held from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Joliet Franciscan Center, located at 1433 Essington Road in Joliet.  There is no cost to attend and light refreshments will be provided.

The program will consist of:

• Speaker on video (TED TALKS): Noy Thrupkaew on “Human Trafficking is All Around You: This is How it Works” – Thrupkaew explores the human trafficking industry in the United States, by showing the human faces behind the illegal labor that feeds consumers with bargains.

• The documentary “Chosen.”  Hear shocking true stories of two “All-American” teenage girls who were tricked into becoming victims of trafficking.

There will be opportunities for discussion, too. The Illinois Women Religious Against Human Trafficking is sponsoring the event. For more information, call Sister Peggy Quinn at 815-725-8735.
