PLAINFIELD – Student council members at William B. Orenic Intermediate School got the opportunity to get a real inside look at government when State Sen. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant D-Shorewood spoke to the group in February.

Students learned how laws are made from the time a problem is identified, through the fixes proposed and committee discussions held, all the way through votes on the floor of the House of Representatives.

The student council members had the opportunity to ask the representative questions, including Javon Doby, who asked Bertino-Tarrant if she liked her job.

Troy student council advisor and math teacher Ashley Fisher at the Troy Community School District 30-C school said she invited Bertino-Tarrant to add to her students’ interest in government.

Bertino-Tarrant told the students if they want to keep up on what’s happening in the General Assembly, even live committee meetings and floor activity, they can visit www.ilga.gov.
