Officials: 3 injured in Chicago apartment building fire

CHICAGO – Authorities said three people were injured in a massive fire that appears to have been triggered by an explosion at an apartment building on Chicago’s South Side.

The Chicago Fire Department said crews were called to the blaze about 6 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses told authorities that the fire was started by an explosion.

Authorities said the cause has not been determined and remains under investigation.

One person was hospitalized with severe burns. Another was injured while jumping out of a window from the building. A third suffered minor cuts.

Fire officials said part of the building collapsed.

More than 100 emergency crews were called to the building.
