Joliet police: Neighbors' dispute led to unwanted debit charges

JOLIET – Police say a dispute between neighbors resulted in unwanted debit charges and criminal charges.

According to Joliet Capt. Jeff Allbert, a resident of the 500 block of West Bellarmine Drive noticed about 2 a.m. Saturday his wallet was missing, but called police after finding it about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in a dumpster behind his apartment building.

"He had reason to believe a neighbor he's been involved in an ongoing dispute with may have taken the wallet and used his debit card," Allbert said.

Allbert said officers spoke with William B. Goluba, 29, and learned he had used the victim's card to make purchases Saturday.

According to police reports, Goluba charged $7 at Dunkin' Donuts in Crest Hill, $31 at a Coal City gas station and attempted to use the card at McDonald's in Kankakee.

Goluba was arrested on a charge of fraud and booked into the Will County jail.

According to jail records, Goluba is facing outstanding charges in LaSalle County. He was arrested by Joliet police in October on charges of burglary, forgery and theft.
