ROMEOVILLE - Four men were arrested Wednesday after allegedly using a woman's credit card information to buy hundreds of gallons of gas.
According to Cmdr. John Ferdinardo, the victim's bank notified her at 8:45 p.m. that her cards were being used at Speedway, 1300 W. Normantown Road.
"She called the clerk, who saw a white box truck at one of the pumps and called us," Ferdinardo said. Officers arrived to stop the truck and a GMC van that was with it from leaving.
"During the stop, officers found numerous debit cards," Ferdinardo noted.
Police also reportedly found the box truck contained 64 five-gallon containers filled with gasoline and a 55-gallon drum that was three-quarters full.
Johnny Fox, 44, of Chicago; Aldon Webb, 45, of Maywood; Teremius Webb, 20, of Chicago, and Vincent Washington, 34, of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, were arrested on charges of identity theft. Washington was also charged with driving with a suspended license.
Ferdinardo said Thursday detectives were reviewing the case with the Will County State's Attorney's office and other charges may be filed.
According to police reports, Speedway is not allowed to put the gas back in the tanks once it had been dispensed.
