JOLIET – Police allegedly found a gun under a marijuana dealer’s bed Wednesday.
Andreas J. Rabb, 36, was the subject of a Joliet police investigation that culminated with a search warrant being executed at a residence in the 1300 block of Elizabeth Street.
“They found $250 worth of packaged cannabis, a digital scale, U.S. currency and a Taurus (handgun) loaded with five rounds,” Will County Assistant State’s Attorney Chris Messina said. “The gun was found under his bed, which he was sleeping in when the police came in.”
Despite being advised by his public defender remain quiet during Thursday’s bond hearing, Rabb repeatedly said “It was my mom’s gun.”
Rabb was arrested on charges of delivery of marijuana, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and unauthorized possession of ammunition. Messina told Judge Art Smiegelski that Rabb also had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear on marijuana delivery charges from 2015.
“It should be noted his mother told police (Rabb) shouldn’t have a gun and she’d never seen him handle that gun,” Messina said. “Though, when officers asked if there was any reason his fingerprints would be on it, he said he’s helped her put the bullets in.”
Rabb told the judge he was unsure how much money he could post for bail because his mother was not answering his phone calls.
“She’s mad at me, (because) they took her gun,” Rabb said.
Smiegelski ordered Rabb held on $500,000 bond.
