SHOREWOOD – Police are investigating whether a stickup Tuesday night at a Shorewood convenience store is connected with a recent string of armed robberies.
The latest robbery happened about 11:30 p.m. at the 7-Eleven at Routes 52 and 59. Chief Aaron Klima said two men came in wearing masks, gloves and hooded sweatshirts and showed the clerks what appeared to be a handgun wrapped in cloth or clothing.
“They demanded money, took the money and fled the store. No one was injured,” Klima said. A K-9 unit was called to the scene but was unable to find the suspects.
“We are investigating a connection to other recent robberies in the area. There are a lot of similarities,” Klima said Thursday.
Police have noted all of the recent robberies occurred at businesses along or relatively close to Interstate 55.
About 1 a.m. Sunday, four men held up the Circle K Gas Station at 2422 Route 59 in Joliet.
Two hours later, five men robbed the 7-Eleven store at 2405 Essington Road in Joliet.
No one has been injured in the robberies, which have been committed by between two and five men.
