NEW LENOX – On April 23, at the Lincoln Inn in Batavia, Lincoln-Way West junior Abigail Sutter was announced as the winner of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) ROTC Enhancement contest of the Fox Valley Chapter.

Sutter was awarded with a Neck Ribbon Bronze JROTC Medal, certificate, and $200 for her essay, “How JROTC has prepared me to be a better citizen of the United States of America.”

Prior to the ceremony, Master Sgt. Dan Schliffka was notified that Sutter will also be announced as the 2017 winner of the Illinois Society SAR ROTC Enhancement contest. Sutter was awarded with $1,000 for her essay at the President Abraham Lincoln Springfield DoubleTree Hotel on May 13.

In her essay, Sutter wrote, “JROTC has truly helped me to become a better citizen of the United States. I have grown into a confident young woman who is capable of not only leading others, but working as part of a group as well. I realize the responsibility I have to make my country a better place, and how I have the power and ability to make that happen.”
