Authorities: Body found appears to be shooting victim

MONEE TOWNSHIP – The man whose body was found in a ditch Wednesday died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The remains were discovered about
2 p.m. by a Will County Highway Department worker cutting grass in the 700 block of Manhattan-Monee Road, just west of Harlem Avenue.

Will County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said the body was “badly decomposed” and the man’s identity remained unknown Thursday afternoon. The Will County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy Thursday to determine how he died.

Investigators believe the man was 5 feet
3 inches tall. He was wearing size 8.5 Clarks sandals, red shorts with a 32-inch waist, a men’s Burberry watch on his left wrist and a gold St. Jude’s ring on his right hand.

“This is a very active investigation and we are asking for the public’s help to identify him,” Hoffmeyer said.

Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff’’s police at 815-727-8574.
