CREST HILL – Amazon is coming to Crest Hill.
The city announced Monday that Amazon will build a 450,000-square-foot facility in the city, which will mark the fifth Amazon operation in Will County.
“We are very proud and excited to welcome Amazon to the community,” Mayor Ray Soliman said in a written statement. “I feel like having a business of their stature will be a tremendous asset to our city and will open many other doors and opportunities for economic development.”
The news release from the city said Amazon will have “several hundred” full- and part-time jobs. It did not say when Amazon would open.
Amazon will go into the Crest Hill Business Park located at Weber Road and Division Street.
Improvements at the business park, including a new entrances and roadway off of Division Street were credited by city officials as factors in bringing in Amazon. The business park had only one lot open for development, city officials previously said.
“Our goal is to expand our tax base and bring more marketability to our commercial corridors, specifically Weber Road,” Crest Hill Economic Development Manager Scott McMaster said in the news release. “I believe having the Amazon name in Crest Hill helps us do both.”
City officials said that the Amazon facility also will generate property and utility tax revenue for Crest Hill.
Amazon also has fulfillment centers in Joliet, Romeoville and Monee. It has two centers in Joliet. The first Amazon facility in Will County opened in October 2015.
