There was a single-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Interstate 80 westbound at Interstate 355 shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday in New Lenox.
Both the identity of the driver and the type of vehicle involved in the deadly wreck was unknown hours after the crash, according to a press release from Illinois State police District 5.
The driver was male, the Will County Coroner's Office said.
Preliminary investigation revealed a passenger vehicle was traveling west on I-80 and lost control, rolled into the right ditch and was engulfed in flame. There was no evidence of any passengers in the vehicle.
The state police are investigating the crash. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday, according to the coroner's office.
