Fatal New Lenox crash victim's vehicle left roadway, rolled over and caught fire

NEW LENOX — An unidentified man died shortly after noon on Sunday following a fiery rollover crash just off of Interstate 80 in New Lenox.

The driver was westbound on I-80 near mile marker 140 in New Lenox just before 11 a.m. Sunday when his vehicle left the roadway, struck an object, rolled over and caught fire, according to a news release from the Will County Coroner's Office.

He was pronounced dead at 12:18 p.m. According to the release, preliminary autopsy results indicate the man died from dermal injuries – injuries to the second thicker layer of skin, which is meant to protect the body.

The man's identity has not yet been released pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. Illinois State Police District 5 continues to investigate the incident.
