ELWOOD – Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery has an open house on Saturday, offering people a closer look at cemetery operations.
The open house will be from noon to 4 p.m., and will include displays of equipment, demonstrations of how gravesites are opened and closed, a full military honors service and information about veterans’
Families who have someone buried at the cemetery typically leave after a service at the shelter and before the casket is put into the ground, said Christine Gutzeit, program specialist at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
“They’ll get a look at what happens after they leave the cemetery,” Gutzeit said. “We’ll actually be doing a mock funeral.”
