Be transparent with SB 1 negotiations

Gov. Bruce Rauner speaks to the Herald-News Editorial Board on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, about his decision to amendment veto Senate Bill 1.
Gov. Bruce Rauner speaks to the Herald-News Editorial Board on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, about his decision to amendment veto Senate Bill 1.

To the Editor:

Depending on who you listen to, Senate Bill 1 is either a great bill for public education or it’s a bailout for the Chicago Public Schools.

I challenge Gov. Bruce Rauner, Speaker Mike Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton to make any negotiations on SB 1 available to the public, preferably on TV or social media.

I’m tired of “he said, she said.”

As a taxpayer, I want to judge the value of each argument myself, without relying on the media. Gov. Rauner, Speaker Madigan and President Cullerton, step up and start negotiating in good faith and make it available to the public. Enough of the games.

David J. Talarico, Joliet
