Bolingbrook police and fire personnel responded at 2 p.m. on Friday to a pickup truck which drove into a retention pond.
Lazaro Carrera, 36, of Cicero, Illinois, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and the driver at the time of the accident.
Police said the pond was in an industrial park near Gateway Court near Crossroads Parkway. The truck was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and drove into the pond and was entirely submerged.
Lazaro initially told police he was the passenger and that a female driver had left to seek medical attention, but that could not be confirmed.
Bolingbrook rescue personnel then went into the pond to see if someone was in the truck but there was no one there. The vehicle was then extricated from the pond.
Police later confirmed Carrera was the driver and he was charged with obstructing a police officer and reckless driving.
