CHANNAHON — A Missouri man was previously arrested and charged in a crash that killed a 60-year-old Braidwood man, who died almost two weeks after it occurred on Interstate 55 in Channahon.
Michael D. DeBoard, 60, of Braidwood, was driving north on I-55 near Bluff Road in Channahon when he was struck by another vehicle, causing his car to roll over, according to a news release from the Will County Coroner's Office. DeBoard was later transported to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he died around 3:20 p.m. Monday.
Lucas M. Roth, 27, of the 1700 block of Hanley Road, O’Fallon, Missouri, was arrested by Illinois State Police Aug. 9 following the crash. He faces the charge of aggravated driving under the influence and causing bodily harm.
Roth allegedly had an blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more while he was driving his Kia Optima northbound on I-55 by mile marker 247 when he crashed in DeBoard’s vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.
Roth’s bond was set at $50,000 and he met bail on Aug. 11 through his mother, who lives in Homer Glen. As a condition of his bond, he is not allowed to consume alcohol during his pending court case and he cannot leave Illinois without the court’s permission.
He is scheduled for court appearances Wednesday and Thursday, as well as a preliminary hearing on Sept. 1.
Baskerville Funeral Home in Wilmington made funeral arrangements for DeBoard.
DeBoard was a Will County native. He was born in Joliet and lived in Wilmington for much of his life, according to his obituary. He enjoyed fishing and was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
"Michael enjoyed listening to classic rock and Christian music, in addition to watching documentaries," DeBoard's obituary said. "He was a true family man who cherished spending time with his kids and grandchildren."
According to the release, the final cause and manner of DeBoard's death will be determined after medical records and police reports are examined.
