The Illinois Woman’s Press Association (IWPA) announced that Joliet native Marianne Wolf-Astrauskas, the association's past president, and current historian/archivist, has been elected president of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW).
The National Federation of Press Women is a nationwide organization of professional women and men pursuing careers across the communications spectrum. The election of officers was held Sept. 7 during the 80th Annual NFPW National Conference in Birmingham, Alabama.
Before her election as president, Wolf-Astrauskas served NFPW as first vice president.
She is the first woman from Illinois to be elected president the organization since Helen Miller Malloch, NFPW founder and first president, was elected in 1937. Malloch was also president of IWPA.
The Joliet native is the author of Joliet, Images of America Series with Arcadia Publishing, The Joliet Rivals Club – a centennial celebration, and Leadership 1937-2013, The First Forty Presidents of the National Federation of Press Women.
She is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University, in Bloomington, Illinois, and lives in Tinley Park, Illinois.
