Illinois Tollway officials mourned the death of a Monee man who worked for them as a roadway maintenance worker.
Illinois Tollway Executive Director Greg Bedalov said the Tollway board and staff were “extremely saddened” by the loss of David M. Schwartz, of Monee, who was killed Monday in an incident on the Tri-State Tollway on Interstate 294.
He was carrying out his duties when he lost his life, according to an Illinois Tollway news release.
“We offer our deepest condolences and our full support to David’s family, loved ones and friends for their heartbreaking loss,” Bedalov said in a news release.
Schwarz served as an equipment operator laborer since the beginning of his career at the Tollway in March 1992. He was married, a father of two children and a valued member of the Tollway.
Schwarz worked on the front line of the 292-mile roadway system, performing duties that included removing snow, maintaining safe roadway conditions and assisting drivers who were stranded or needed help.
