Students from Lincoln-Way Central’s Computer Tech Club participated in the “LaunchU Marketing Competition” at Launch Digital Marketing in Naperville.
The April 22 competition tasked students to help local nonprofits achieve their marketing goals through strategic planning and execution. Lincoln-Way Central students were assigned to the nonprofit Loaves & Fishes, a service aiming to end local hunger by uniting and mobilizing resources to empower people to be self-sufficient.
Out of six teams, Lincoln-Way Central teams placed second and fourth. Juniors Joey Clare, Dan Darche and Shane Tulley finished fourth overall in the competition. Seniors Noah Bryles, Andrew Linares, and Mike Gentry finished second. The high school students’ placements were especially impressive considering most teams in the competition consisted of college students.
As a team, students created a paid search marketing campaign utilizing Google AdWords from concept to execution. Each team was responsible for executing a campaign which included a budget, ads, search keywords and promo videos. Students learned skills including strategy, design and video marketing. Through the competition, students gained LaunchU certification and resume-building skills, as well as real-world experience working with clients and timelines.
