Why Roat was selected:
He shot a six-under 66 to win the 3A Lincoln-Way Central Regional. The Celtics senior also earned his third-straight state trip after qualifying at the Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional.
Herald-News sports writer Curt Herron talked with Roat.
Herron: What do you like the most about playing golf?
Roat: I love being outside since it's a different kind of experience dealing with the weather and the conditions. And you can play your own game and not worry about other people.
Herron: How do you like competing for Providence?
Roat: I couldn't have asked to be on better teams during my four years. They're all great people to be with and most of all, are friends. And coach (John) Platt is unbelievable. He's not like any other, he's just a really good coach.
Herron: What do you like the most about Providence?
Roat: I love everything about it. I couldn't have asked for a better school or opportunity to go there. We're all one community.
Herron: What's your favorite classes?
Roat: Economics and math.
Herron: Who's your favorite athlete and sports team?
Roat: Jordan Spieth. The Ryder Cups for USA.
Herron: Who would you like to meet, past or present?
Roat: Arnold Palmer.
Herron: Do you have any pets?
Roat: I have a turtle.
Herron: What's your favorite food and restaurant?
Roat: My favorite food is Mexican. And El Burrito Loco.
Herron: What's your favorite TV show?
Roat: My favorite TV show is The Office.
Herron: What type of music do you like?
Roat: All of it whenever it's at the right time.
Herron: What do you do in your free time?
Roat: I like to do stuff with my friends, whatever comes to our minds to do.
Herron: Where's the most interesting place you've visited and where would you like to go?
Roat: My favorite place that I've been to is Arizona. And I'd like to go to Australia.
