JOLIET – One new hotel has opened, and another is on its way.
Home2 Suites by Hilton opened Wednesday outside of the Louis Joliet Mall.
Meanwhile, developers of the Holiday Inn with a conference center plan to open in the winter near the Houbolt Road interchange with Interstate 80.
The Home2 Suites by Hilton, located at 4095 Hennepin Drive, has 115 suites.
A news release about the hotel describes the rooms as having suite accommodations that include fully equipped kitchens and modular furniture that can be moved to suit guests’ preference.
The hotel also has a Spin2 Cycle combined fitness and laundry area, indoor saline pool, fire pit and grill area.
The hotel is managed by Raymond Management Company.
Developers of the Holiday Inn will be seeking a liquor license from the city of Joliet at the City Council meeting on Tuesday.
The liquor license is for a Burger Theory restaurant and bar that will be part of the hotel, said Akshay Mehrotra, a partner with Hospitality Guru Group, the company developing the hotel.
Mehrotra said the hotel will open sometime in the winter, but the owners need to get a liquor license now to start lining up vendors. Burger Theory is a casual dining restaurant frequently located in Holiday Inn hotels.
The Holiday Inn will have 120 rooms.
The project received attention when it first was announced in 2013 for the conference center, which is believed to boost the potential to attract business meetings and conferences to Joliet.
The conference facility will be 12,000 square feet and can be broken out into smaller rooms
Aurora-based Hospitality Guru Group originally announced its Joliet plan in 2013 with an 80-room Candlewood Suites hotel to be built with the Holiday Inn. The plan later was changed with the possibility of the Candlewood Suites hotel being built once the market for the Holiday Inn was established.
