PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP – Detectives on Monday were trying to talk with a woman who had been shot in the head to get more information about her assailant.
“It’s hard to communicate, but she is responsive,” Will County Sheriff’s Lt. Dan Jungles said.
The 35-year-old woman is in the hospital after being shot in the head and abdomen sometime early Saturday.
No one had been arrested as of late Monday afternoon for the shooting that occurred in the Crystal Lawns area at the woman’s home. Sheriff’s police in a news release said they believe the woman “was specifically targeted and that there is no danger to the public.”
Jungles said he did not have detailed information about the woman’s condition.
“From what I understand, the prognosis is good. But that’s all I know at this point,” he said.
Police said they were called to a house in the 2400 block of Meridian Drive at about 8:50 a.m. Saturday to assist paramedics treating a woman who was bleeding from the head.
Family members found the woman bleeding after they woke up in the morning, police said.
The 35-year-old woman had been shot once in the head and once in the abdomen, police said. She was conscious at the time police arrived and was taken immediately into surgery after being taken to the hospital.
Family members said they were sleeping during the incident, police said. The woman was last seen by others in the house at about midnight before she was shot sometime later.
Police did not provide information as to how long a time may have lapsed between when she was shot and when paramedics arrived.
The incident occurred in a section of the unincorporated Crystal Lawns area north of Caton Farm Road and west of Essington Road.
The Plainfield Township Fire Department took the woman to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center.
