Police look for leads in Plainfield Township shooting

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP – Police said they are still trying to develop leads in the case of a woman who was apparently shot twice in the night in her bedroom last weekend.

Police continue to have difficulty communicating with the 35-year-old woman, who was shot in the head and abdomen, Will County Sheriff's spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said Friday.

"We continue to actively investigate the case," Hoffmeyer said.

Police were called to the home in the 2400 block of Meridian Drive in the Crystal Lawns area at 8:50 a.m. on Oct. 28. The call was made by Plainfield Township Fire Department paramedics, who were treating the woman as she was bleeding from the head.

The woman was found in the morning on the floor of her bedroom by family members who were there during the night, Hoffmeyer said.

Police have said that family members had last seen the woman at about midnight before she went to bed. The family members then found her after they woke up in the morning.

The woman was conscious at the time police arrived. She was taken immediately into surgery after being transported to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Sheriff’s police previously said in a news release they believe the woman “was specifically targeted and that there is no danger to the public.”
