JOLIET – The University of St. Francis joined with several community partners on Oct. 27 to hand off 2,487 pairs of white crew socks to the Will County Veterans Assistance Commission.

USF, Exxon-Mobil, Harrah’s Casino, Illinois Valley Community College, Joliet Junior College, Kankakee Community College, Lewis University and Presence St. Joseph Medical Center collected new crew socks at their respective facilities during the inaugural “Sock It to Our Vets” drive hosted by the American Red Cross of Illinois River Valley Service to the Armed Forces program.

Representatives from each organization gathered on the second floor of Tower Hall at the main campus of USF to bring their donations together and hand them off to the Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County (VACWC).

Superintendent of the VACWC Kristi McNichol knows just what to do with the almost 2,500 pairs of socks that were turned over to her that Friday.

This donation will allow McNichol and her team to provide pairs of socks to veterans in need in Will County, as well as Grundy and Kankakee counties, at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital and through Operation Support Our Troops.

Bruce Foote, USF veterans certifying official, director of financial aid and U.S. Army veteran, appreciates the commitment these organizations demonstrated to veterans and their families.

In addition, USF provides several military service member programs including discounts and veteran mentor programs for qualifying students.
