Why Daylight Savings Time makes sense

To the Editor:

In response to Mr. Olson’s article on daylight savings time, he is no doubt way too young to remember the last time the we tried staying on DST and its unintended consequences.

In 1973, in response to the oil shortage, it was thought that staying on DST would save energy. I’m not sure that was proven one way or the other, but what did happen was a very alarming spike in the number of children killed as they made their way to school.

Sunrise under DST at the end of December is around 8:15, so most all kids were going to school in the dark. Traffic around schools is bad enough at that time of the morning but add darkness to the equation and the outcome was not very pretty.

Some little-known facts, just look it up. So, just for the kids sake, lets just put on our big boy pants and suck it up.

It’s just one hour and, by Tuesday, you already are used to it.
