JOLIET – A Romeoville man was arrested after allegedly beating a woman in her early 70s and stealing her purse in the parking deck of Harrah’s Casino, police said.

On Thursday, police responded to the parking deck of Harrah’s Casino, 151 N. Joliet St., where they found a woman in her early 70s bleeding from the head and fading in and out of consciousness, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Al Roechner said.

An ambulance was called and the injured woman was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. The woman was kept overnight because of her age and the extent of her injuries, Roechner said.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage of the parking deck and were able to locate the alleged assailant, Benny Moy, 64, of the 500 block of South Wynbrooke Road in Romeoville, Roechner said. The officers were able to determine the license plate number of Moy’s vehicle and tracked him to his residence, where he was arrested, he said.

Roechner said Moy allegedly beat the elderly woman about the face and head area and stole her purse, which contained her cellphone and other items.

Moy was charged with robbery and aggravated battery of a senior citizen.

Moy transported to the Will County jail. He appeared in court Saturday and his bond was set at $125,000. Moy posted 10 percent bail and was released from custody shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday.
