CHANNAHON – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Monday that workers were making emergency repairs to an Interstate 55 bridge near Channahon.
Traffic was down to at least one lane Monday on southbound I-55 roughly three miles south of Arsenal Road near Channahon, according to a news release from IDOT.
The structure that carries I-55 over the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad and Grant Creek was undergoing emergency bridge deck, or road surface, repairs.
The repairs were expected to be completed Monday night, but lane closures were in place through the evening rush hour.
IDOT predicted delays and urged motorists to allow extra time for trips on the interstate.
