CHANNAHON — For the second time in two weeks, workers are making emergency repairs to an Interstate 55 bridge near Channahon.

The Illinois Department of Transported tweeted just after 12:20 p.m. Tuesday that the right lane on southbound I-55 between Arsenal Road and Wilmington Road was closed for emergency bridge deck repairs.

"Expected to reopen by 5 a.m. tomorrow," the tweet stated.

In a news release from Nov. 13, IDOT announced that traffic was down to at least one lane on southbound I-55 roughly three miles south of Arsenal Road near Channahon.

The structure that carries I-55 over the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad and Grant Creek was undergoing emergency bridge deck, or road surface, repairs.

IDOT predicted delays and urged motorists to allow extra time for trips on the interstate.
