BOLINGBROOK — Former Village of Bolingbrook Trustee Sheldon Watts was appointed by Mayor Roger Claar to fill the vacancy left by Leroy Brown, who died on October 31.
According a post on the Village of Bolingbrook Facebook page, Watts was appointed at the village board meeting on Tuesday, November 28. The Village Board approved the appointment.
"The legacy and positive impact that Leroy Brown had on this community will last for generations to come," Watts said in the post. "We will hold all the great memories very close to our hearts."
He previously served on the village board after being appointed in December of 2016 to fill a vacancy. He was defeated in the April 2017 election to the Village Board.
Watts has worked in the global telecommunications industry for 20 years. He has been involved with community organizations including the Bolingbrook Joyfest and the Bolingbrook STEM Association.
He was selected as Bolingbrook's 2014 Male Citizen of the year and to the 2016 Governor Jim Edgar Fellowship class.
Watts holds a bachelors degree in psychology and a master of business administration from Roosevelt University. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where he is studying organizational leadership.
The term Brown was elected to ends in April 2019.
