SHOREWOOD – Troy Junior High School’s seventh-grade girls basketball team will be trying to complete a perfect season when it plays for the IESA Class 4A title at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Bolingbrook’s Brooks Middle School.
The Trojans bring a 27-0 record into the contest, where they will face 16-3 East St. Louis Lincoln. Troy earned its spot in the championship game with a 51-27 semifinal victory over East Peoria Central, as Lisa Thompson scored 36 points, which included five 3-pointers.
Frankfort’s Summit Hill (22-4) will be playing in the seventh grade Class 4A third-place game against East Peoria Central at 6 p.m. They also are playing at Brooks Middle School. The Spartans dropped their semifinal game, 54-47, to East St. Louis Lincoln.
On Wednesday, Lockport’s Taft School (19-1) will host Armstrong-Ellis (16-2) at 6:30 p.m. in sectional two of the eighth grade Class 1A tournament. In the eighth-grade Class 2A sectional No. 1, which will be played at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Gardner, Lockport’s Kelvin Grove (7-12) meets Bourbonnais St. George (14-1).
In the eighth-grade Class 4A bracket, four area teams will be competing in 6:30 p.m. games. In sectional four at Ottawa Shepherd, New Lenox’s Liberty (15-10) meets Troy (17-5). Mokena (22-2) takes on Lansing Memorial (18-4) in sectional two at Markham Prairie-Hills and Summit Hill (17-6) faces Flossmoor Parker (21-1) in sectional three at Summit Hill.
Gardner-South Wilmington 50, Tri-Point 34: Kaitlynn Kavanaugh (17 points) and Madelyn Storm (nine points) led the Panthers (5-2, 2-0).
Morris goes 2-1: The Redskins beat Hubbard and Vernon Hills and lost by criteria to Riverside-Brookfield. Jacob Eisenbeis (145) and Cody Baldridge (182) had three wins.
