JOLIET TOWNSHIP – A Joliet man faces first-degree murder charges in connection with his brother’s death after an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

At 12:24 a.m. Sunday, Will County Sheriff’s police were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of Sterling Avenue in Joliet Township, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies found Ricardo Perez, 36, of Joliet dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the head on the second floor of the residence.

Ricardo was pronounced dead at
2:30 a.m., the Will County coroner said.

Responders secured the residence, and after questioning several individuals, they came up with a suspect, Perez’s brother, Chris, 28, of Joliet.

Chris, who lives at the residence his brother was found dead in, confessed to his involvement in the homicide and gave investigators an account of what happened.

Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow authorized first-degree murder charges after communication with his office and the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

Chris Perez is expected in court at 1:30 p.m. Monday, when his bond will be set.

An autopsy for Ricardo Perez is scheduled for Monday. Funeral home selection is pending.
