JOLIET – A Joliet man was arrested after he allegedly sprayed his ex-girlfriend in the eyes with pepper spray and threatened another man with a folding knife, police said.
On Monday, Kevin D. Reed, 32, got into an argument with his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend at his home in the 800 block of John Street, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said. The argument then turned physical, Gregory said.
When Reed reportedly came close to his girlfriend’s face, she pulled out a can of pepper spray, but he took it away from her, Gregory said. He allegedly sprayed her eyes and pushed her to the floor, he said.
A 19-year-old man nearby saw the incident, but Reed allegedly pulled out a folding knife to swing at him, Gregory said.
The 19-year-old man ran off and called the police, he said.
Reed then allegedly returned to his girlfriend, placed his hands around her neck and held a knife to her throat in a threatening manner, Gregory said. By that time, officers arrived and arrested Reed, he said.
Reed was charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated assault. He was booked into the Will County jail.
